If it is happening anywhere, it is in Alaska. A lot of human trafficking runs through that state as well.

But Oregon and Washington? Nah.

I grew up around actual wilderness. Since moving up to the PNW, I’ve found that what passes for remote and spoopy is pretty tame.

People here hike a couple hours innawoods and think they are far from civilization. The PNW was about the only place in the world where the native peoples were sedentary hunter gatherers. Food and water are plentiful,t the climate is fairly mild and hospitable, shelter is everywhere.

Even on the east side, in the deserts and plains, survival is pretty easy.

There is industry everywhere here, farming, military installations. It would be extremely difficult to hunt humans here without every Tom, Dick, and Harry noticing.

Oregon is a little weird, but it is mostly communes – hippies, religious nutjobs, or nazis. They aren’t remote enough to provide fodder for hunting grounds, either.

Alaska, though…look up the FBI reports sometime on the number of Alaskan native women and foreign women that are found in the wilderness up there, partially skinned or with trophies taken off their bodies. The FBI actually thinks there are companies that will charter planes and guides to take people out their to rape and hunt women…and they’ve had this theory since the seventies.

Also look into the Palin family…Todd has been involved with some weird shit. Some of his buddies were caught smuggling truckloads of bound and gagged women and children over from Russia and all the charges got mysteriously dropped.

I’ve driven through a few of them…they aren’t much. Collections of farms and houusing developments with some odd ducks who all share a viewpoint. They get a little huffy when outsiders stop in for a beer or a cup of coffee, and ask you to move on quickly. But mostly they are just normal people who all go to church together, or barbecues where they discuss their political beliefs, or meeting where they talk about communing with UFOs and growing organic kale.

It might take me awhile to find my sources again…I did a bunch of research for an academic project on criminal profiling. There was a famous profiler at the FBI back int he seventies who first linked a bunch of dead bodies found in the Alaskan wilderness to a known serial killer. When caught, the guy talked about his chartered “hunting trips” and said he didn’t always go alone. However, there have hundreds of other bodies found with similar mutilations, in similar patterns, since that guy was caught and the cases have never been cracked. Largely because many of the women are not reported missing by their families, or they are thought to be foreign nationals so nobody knows the identities of the dead.

Even the North Cascades in winter don’t see those kinds of numbers.

The glaciers of Rainier are popular with mountain/ice climbers, and it has some of the most difficult climbs in the world. People die a lot up there.

Skiers and winter sports enthusiasts get caught in avalanches every winter…maybe a dozen or so. Some hikers are lost every spring or fall to landslides.

But there isn’t anywhere in the region that loses anything near the 300 a year number, at least not in lower 48 states.

Im in Oregon from another state, been here for a good amount of time now.

In Portland, there is homeless hunting/kidnapping. Most of the homeless here are form different places around the country, a large amount from cali.

They’re kidnapped and exported north, and no one bats an eye. If you ever go to Portland be very careful, human trafficking is on the rise. The police force in Portland is also dwindling, and swamped to the point that they have a hard time accepting emergency calls.

This reminded me of 2 famous Alaska serial killers.

The first is Robert Hansen. He admitted to kidnapping, flying into a remote area, and then hunting (eventually killing) at least 17 women. This is literal human hunting, in a fairly sophisticated operation – flying people out in his plane. This is the topic of thread, so it proves this has actually happened before.

The other is Israel Keyes, another Alaskan serial killer. His full number of victims is unknown, but he meticulously planned and stalked his victims for years before killing them. He would often take them from national parks or remote areas, and they would only be reported as missing. He had “murder caches” with firearms, chemicals, zip ties, tarps etc stashed all over the country. Keyes would fly into Chicago, then rent a car and drive to the east coast for a murder, paying only cash. He was former combat arms military and basically used espionage level field craft in his murders. He also oddly didn’t have a specific target victim. Old couples, young women, adult males, he didn’t care and seemed to hunt people purely for sport. He eventually committed “suicide” despite being on suicide watch, and his full number of victims (or what he was even involved in) will probably never be known.

I’ve always felt these two serial killers in particular had something more going on with them behind the scenes.

Not sure if this was human poachers but one time I was at this place called the train tressle, an abandoned mining bridge in the brothers mountains, I’ve been there a few times but this time there was some people shooting on the other side of it, we shouted and waved so they would know we were there and they started shooting at us, I’m not sure if they were just trying to scare us or not because they came very close like ten feet away from us with the slugs but didn’t actually hit us. We got out of there pretty quickly, never really understood why that happened though

Same here. There are just so many odd things about the case – he had some sort of mental breakdown to grab a girl from his hometown, then use her debit card and generally be very sloppy. His previous confirmed murders were meticulously planned. And also extremely weird, he was able to commit suicide despite being under suicide watch 3 months before his trial. He was “mistakenly” given a razor blade by prison staff. He also doesn’t fit any previous profile – he had no specific target type, he was a dedicated family man, he was known to be a hard worker with his contracting business.

He is known to have travelled extensively after leaving the military, and not much is known about his life after he did his time. It wouldn’t surprise me if he ended up in something like the US Army Skilled and Evaluation Detachment, or some other military/civilian spook detachment. I live in Alberta and work in the wilderness, scouting leases and pipelines for oil companies. Furthest north I’ve been, I was marking a pipeline near a little puddle called Sawn Lake. Google map that shit, it’s pretty amazing how remote it is. The closest settlement is a tiny village on an indian reserve called Red Earth Creek. Kinda spooky when I stop and think about it.
